malc
Hi I've used oscommerce recently with great success, but this has been for a relatively straightforward commerce site that just needed some minor tweaking to the layout etc. I have a new project which is to create an online booking system so that clients going on to our site can check availability and pay for for a holiday apartment by credit card - without any embarassing double booking! I suspect that the answer to this is that oscommerce would need considerable re-enginnering to fit this model but is there any advice anyone can give me on this? Thanks Malcolm
mattice
If you see an apartment as a product and extend the availability of that product to be a time table that can be flagged 'occupied' you're halveway there... but yes it will require serious changes to both database and osC scripts. radders
Sounds interesting. I was thinking along the same links for an on-line booking system for my club. Just thinking out loud here but couldn't the appartment be a category with 52 products being the weeks it is available with a stock of one of each product with its own price? Then when a week is sold it disappears from the shop. The main page would need to carry the description and 'new products' wouldn't be needed. Credit card companies hate holiday rentals though. mattice
that might work... have you tried ? I fear you will get in trouble with searching etc... Credit card companies hate holiday rentals though. Try porn, firearms or gambling for a change. radders
Try porn, firearms or gambling for a change. Trying to give them up. No I haven't tried this yet. Maybe searching would be a problem with more than one property. I was thinkig of just the one
malc
Hi Using a category with 52 products sounds workable in my case as we only have 5 properties and therefore no need of a search facility. Even if it does grow you might be able to still get away without a search if you use different categories for different sets of properties....I suppose? I will have a try at putting something together over the next few weeks. Anyone interested in having a look at some stage? Malcolm
Gordonz
Hi I am just about to start on the exact same project except in my case just one room b&b. I am thinking of using the categories as months and 1 of each product as a night and one of each product in the database. I had been thinking of a calenedar but the above seems so simple why bother! jon_l
I saw a discussion on one of the Nuke sites (either PHPNuke or PostNuke) regarding a booking type system a month or so ago - it looked like there was a lot of interest in it. I don't know if anyone has written the Nuke module, or even if any work has been done on it, but it might be worth checking it out. I realise this would only provide the booking side of it, but you might be able to use the same code and integrate it. Or, have some kind of link from the booking in to OSC. For example, a seperate page for the booking system (with its own database tables), when they have booked you could then add an item to the shopping cart with the details of the booking stored in the comments (or a new) field. I wouldn't of thought this would take too much work.... The below link is to another booking system I found.... http://mrbs.sourceforge.net/ Jon.
