Setting up a home web server?

2 things:

 

I'd like to setup a home webserver to host all my 500GB worth of ebooks i sell through my website.

 

First thing is i'd like to know if it is possible to send out an automated email to customers who purchase through my website a link to my home webserver, where they can download the product. Is there a contrib that does this?

 

Secondly, can anyone give me any tips on setting up a webserver? Is it best to go linux or windows based for this? Security is of prime concern. Links should only be valid for 24 hours and then expire.

 

I know this is similar to downloads controller, however you can't specify an external link through that.

 

Any help would be much appreciated.
