For a time now i hear sometimes our client that they do not receive an order confirmation mail. I think this is because they have a to high spam filter. I need some module to fix this. Somehow that our Emails being send with a special code that say "this isn't a spam email". I hope there is such thing to fix this.

In your dreams. If there was such a thing, don't you think spammers would use it?

Tell them to add your email address to their address book. Do it as part of Account Creation. Tell them quite clearly that if they don't get their account creation email then they won't be getting their Order confirmation emails either. Make it their problem.

You would be surprised what people do. Running a server shows you all the bounces - invalid email addresses, full mail boxes, disallowing mail relays.

But read up about emails on the forum. There are some things you can change like the reply to etc. Patches for AOL customers.

What could it be if it is not spam filters. Why does some customers get the emails and some won't It makes no sence. If try it myself it always works. Could it be because there are multiple people ordering at the same time ?

I really need some backup for this. Does anyone else have the same problem ?

Alexian,

Are you getting an email at the times your customers are not?

I dont know what you mean, but still oscommerce mails are being sed so much that it seems like spam i guess. Would an SSL connection do any good ?

SSL has nothing to do with it.

Re-read Kite's post above. There is nothing you can do about it on your end except enlighten your customers about spam filters and messages not being received.

It makes all the sense in the world. Not every customer is using the same email program, or the same filter settings, or the same email host/provider, etc.

Some people have spam settings and filters so high, i'm amazed they get any email at all.

The store I've been handling for a while has suddenly begun to experience these problems too; some customers have complained that they have not received any order confirmation emails (and therefore no instructions on how to pay for their orders).

The first thing I suspected to be the cause of all this was spam filters; two of the customers who had not received any confirmations both had @hotmail accounts, and I thought that maybe Hotmail's spam filter rules have somehow changed, since both of these customers had made many successful orders in the past.

When I tried to make a few test orders using my own Hotmail account, this really seemed to be the case, since the e-mails really did go into Hotmail's junk folder. But the funny thing is, that this was not the case for these two customers -- their junk mail folders were empty! They had never received the mails in any form. There is another customer too - a Gmail user - who hadn't received anything. When I tested the store using my own Gmail address, everything was fine...

Strange. Any ideas, anyone?

EDIT: The store has been running for a long time already, and as far as I know, these problems didn't exist until a few days ago.

Maybe you could add some text when customers place an order if they do not receive an email within few minutes to check their accounts verifying the orders is being processed. osC should show the orders being placed with the customers history.

Another method would be to change the checkout process and checkout success scripts such that a link to the order information will be generated at the end of the checkout.

Also check if your domain is reported for spam because that could explain it.

Now these are not solutions that will cover each case but at least can minimize the side effects.
