Suggested mod to "Main categories in front page" contrib

I'd like to mod the "main categories in front page" contrib to go one layer deeper - so that thumbnail links to subcategories are on each category page

 

anybody know where to start with this?

Same here... *BUMP*!!!

 

I tried setting up something like this up on my site, but it just shows the main categories on every page instead of the categories which are relavent to the current page. Someone help us please!
