Hi everyone,

Noticed that google checkout has come out in the UK. I believe it was today? Does anybody have any experience of using it, is it a good service for merchants?

Thanks

Thanks :)

I noticed that too - am currently trying to set it up on my website - or at least my test site. I hope I can get it to work.

Anyway as the transaction rates are lower than Paypal's it is certainly worh giving a go.

I hope to use it instead of paypal as the fees are higher as you say. I received this email from google when asking about integration:

We've kept the Google Checkout API consistent for the UK. So, osCommerce should be able to function with Google Checkout UK if it supports international shipping. I'm not sure of osCommerce's international shipping capability and this would be a question to refer to osCommerce themselves. If they do support international shipping then integrating osCommerce with Google Checkout UK, would be the same as integrating for Google Checkout US(ie enter Merchant ID/Key etc).

I don't understand if it will work. :-"

Any help appreciated

Thanks :)

Can get google checkout to work (using Sandbox) - but only after a fashion. Having problem with shipping - but there is a massive support thread on this that I've just been ploughing through.

But then I noticed there were some other offerings - looks like a bit or research needed

I guess it might be worth getting help from a paid expert? Such as paying someone to install it fully?

Thanks

Thanks :)

Google checkout Uk isnt just cheaper than PayPal, its 100% free untill 2008. And after that itll still probably be much cheaper than PayPal.

Ye, i read that it is 1.5% + GBP 0.15 per transaction! I think i saw it on the help pages. That is from 2008!

Is anyone running G checkout on a uk store - particularly alongside other payment methods? If so let me know - I may well place an order with you just to see how it works (please note if you only sell luxiry yachts or something I probably won't)

If you are doing a small site then it is a bit more involved than Paypal. e.g. Paypal allows you to create a Basket /Cart without having to mess around with oscommerce.

If you are happy with 'Buy Now' buttons rather than baskets/carts then it is very similar to Paypal to set up.

See www.pictureourland.com

For an early version of what I am working on at present.

One thing I dont like so much about it is that you HAVE to sign up to a google account when making a payment for the first time through google checkout - at least Paypal give you the option just to give your payment details rather than having to create an account...

I am also messing with the oscommerce google checkout module at www.pictureourland.com/oscommerce

But it is heavy going as I an a complete newbie to oscommerce... I am making headway - but for the life of me I cannot work out how to disable the standard 'checkout' button and replace it with the google checkout button (It works fine in addition to the standard button - but once I remove the std button and mvoe the google button to where the std button used to be - it stops working completely - without giving me any error message or anything...:-( ) (I have a limited knowledge of PHP - but thsi just does not make sense to me .....)

Also - currently they only let you accept payments in GBP - not so good if you are based in the UK but have customers in the USA...

you can install the special contribution and customers can see price in their lovely currency but charged in GBP, see the live example of the shop in my signature...

Please read this line: Do you want to find all the answers to your questions? click here. As for contribution database it's located here!

8 people out of 10 don't bother to read installation manuals. I can recommend: if you can't read the installation manual, don't bother to install any contribution yourself.

Before installing contribution or editing/updating/deleting any files, do the full backup, it will save to you & everyone here on the forum time to fix your issues.

Any issues with oscommerce, I am here to help you.
