♥Vger Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 Search these forums for 'godaddy' and you'll come up with lots of posts from very unhappy people struggling to try and get osCommerce to work on GoDaddy servers. The best advice is to write off what you have paid to GoDaddy as a bad investment and find a better hosting company. Vger
Jack_mcs Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 after setting register global on i am getting internal server error on starting the install folder. is there any one who has done sucessful installation of os commerce on godaddy server.plz help me i am confused with this.Godaddy does things a little differently so it is more difficult to get an oscommerce site running with them. If following Rheas' advice is not possible, then first be sure you are on a Linux server. Godaddy will switch you if you request it. The Internal Server error is a catach-all error and can be caused by many things. The first I suggest checking is the permissions on the files. Make sure they are set correctly for the server. You may also have to include the register globals option within this code<IfModule mod_php4.c> </IfModule> You could also ask godaddy. They won't support oscommerce problems but this error is not really an oscommerce problem so they may help you. usernamenone Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 I really don't understand why some have such a problem installing on GoDaddy's servers. When you sign up for an account with GoDaddy you are automaticly placed on a windows server and will need to switch to the Linux server. ASP is Windows so Choose PHP by using the instructions below. You have to be on the Linux server which you can do by login in the look for the Hosting and Email link. Once in that window you will then click on your website, another window opens up and you will then look to the right and choose Upgrade/Downgrade Hosting Account Switch Operating System You will then choose hosting with PHP. This change will then take about 24 hours if I remember correctly. You should be advised that GoDaddy does not offer cURL so if you want to use a payment processer other than PayPal you will not be able to. My first oscommerce catalog is hosted there. The install by using FileZilla went flawless. I did not have the file permission or register_globals issues that some have with other hosts. It's because, like many hosts, godaddy doesn't understand not support oscommerce. Shops can be installed on godaddy - I've done it serveral times myself. However, the little things that don't have, like password protection in their control panel, makes it more difficult to install, especially if it isn't noticed that you are on a Windows server. As for payment modules, any will work. They use proxies so to get around the curl problem a code change is required in the payment module. So where, on another host, you would just basically install the shop and be ready to run, with godaddy it can take some tweaking to get it set up right. usernamenone Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 Yes, I do remember the frustration about securing admin but in no time I found the contrib login log out. http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions,4121 but I faulted osCommerce and not GoDaddy for not providing password protection. I had set up several forums and all had protected admin and wondered why this software does not. I do like the custom log in of the contrib better than the .htaccess ones. Another thing about GoDaddy is the path to the database. It goes through secureserver.net so the setting for your database is not the standard. The site I have that is hosted on GoDaddy only uses PayPal so thanks for the info about other payment modules, though I doubt I will install another site with them. Yes, there are better hosts for oscommerce and granted no matter what host someone uses to install their online business using oscommerce there will always be someone that just can't grasp the steps to install their shop and will have issues. kustomjs Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 I was just told by godaddy you got to use this:http://help.godaddy.com/article.php?article_id=289&
Gauravs Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 Have we lost track of the issue - GoDaddy is just another hosting company .. and what has happened on GoDaddy can happen on any web hosting company. Problem is with Windows Server and not the service provider. I have installed osc on godaddy - no issues over there. Ravi after setting register global on i am getting internal server error on starting the install folder Which version of OSC are you trying to install, new one doesn't require register_globals to be ON - Cheers, Gaurav Best Regards,Gaurav
velo1ever Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 I have godaddy and I thought it was the easiest thing in the world..and I am by far not the smartest when it comes to computers..go daddy will actually set and install oscommerce for you and set up your sql database.....just check out Metropolis on godaddy when you login to your account and then search for oscommerce and it will install it for you...takes about 10 mins for everything to be set up....but you do have to have a linux server...pm me if you need help.
shellqc Posted November 23, 2007 Posted November 23, 2007 Are you guys aware that Godaddy has OSCommerce as one of the applications you can install through their hosting metropolis thing? Just log into your account and it's called "Godaddy Hosting Connection" now. There's tons of applications in there and OSCommerce and ZenCart are a couple of them, you just select what you want and it will tell you what server you have and if it will work then installs it automatically for you. It even creates the DB. Godaddy does work just fine with their own OSC or your own custom version.
Vmotion Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 has anyone had any shipping issues? I can't get any shipping module to work. Also what are the proxies for the Credit card payment modules to work? Thanks in advance for any help.
