EVS Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 Hello. I just discovered oscommerce and I am interested in moving forward with building a biz website with ecommerce however what are the first (basic) steps I need to take to accomplish this...again I literally just came across this oscommerce concept. ANY SUGGESTIONS-DIRECTION WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED. Many Thanks. EVS Always give your best, never get discouraged!
Jack_mcs Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 You need to sign up with a hosting comapny first. Find one that offers oscommerce - a Linux server is best. In their control panel will be an option to install oscommerce. Install it and play around with it. The version they load will most likely have to be updated but it is good enough to get you going. You will also need to purchase a domain name. Once you have that, you can point it to your hosts server and your site will be live. Jack_mcs Posted April 27, 2007 Posted April 27, 2007 This is the place to ask (this being the forums, not necessairly this thread). Searching as demonstrated above is the best way to get started. It is more work for you but you will get quicker answers in most cases. When asking a question, it is best to ask "a" question. Everyone responding to questions here are doing so because they want to. If you provide a long list of what you want, you won't get a very good answer, in most cases. You should post your question in a new thread with a clear topic. So a new thread with the topic of "How do I enter products" should get several responses. In that post, there is no need to explain how old you are, where you went to school, whiy you are using oscommerce or any number of other such statements that don't apply to the question (this is directed at what you said but have appeared in previous posts). The question should also be kept as short as possible to get the best response. If others don't understand it, they will ask you to explain. With all of that said, you add products by going into your admin section, which is located at http://www.yourdomain.com/admin, or possibly catalog/admin (or some other variation). Click on the Catalog link in the left. Click on the New Category button and add whatever category you want the product to appear in. Then doubleclick on that category and click on the New Product button to add a product. You then need to click on Preview and then on Insert. It should appear in your shop at that point. If you get lost on the above, just repsond with what steps you are taking and someone will help with it.
