Hello everyone,

I am in a bit of a pickle here. My site is working great and all of that jazz. But, my client notified me of a weird problem with how the taxes are displaying.

For example I have included the breakdown below. What is happening is that the tax on the shipping is not displaying with the taxes on the product, but is adding it in to the total price at the end. This is confusing some customers (the ones that cant figure it out and prefer to freak out) in to thinking that we are charging them an extra hidden fee. Which of course we do not want to do. We want it to be very cut and dry, like here is the product price, here is the shipping, here are the taxes, you add up the the columns and you get the total. With the tax on the shipping not being displayed with the tax it is confusing everyone. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Here is the example from the customer email:

1 x Graceful Grandeur () = $60.99
FL TAX 7.0%: $4.27
Sub-Total: $60.99
Zip Code Flat Rate (34684): $7.00
Total: $72.75

Thank you very much in advance. A solution to this would make my day. I appreciate it. :D

The figures do not add up.

What shipping module are you using?

How is your tax set up (7.0% of the purchase price plus shipping or ex shipping)?

Thanks for the reply.

I realize that they do not add up. Here is how it does add up which is why it is confusing. I am using zipship, but zipship does not edit the calculations to my knowledge. If you add up $60.99 (which is the product price without taxes) + the taxes it is showing $4.27 + the $7.00 delivery. You get 72.26. But you will notice that the total is 49 cents more than 72.26 displaying it at 72.75. The total is correct I am just wondering why the tax on the shipping, 49 cents, is not being included with the $4.27 tax line. That is confusing customers in to thinking that there is a "hidden" charge in the order, but there isnt.

1 x Graceful Grandeur () = $60.99
FL TAX 7.0%: $4.27 (7% tax of the product price $60.99 above only)
Sub-Total: $60.99
Zip Code Flat Rate (34684): $7.00 (The shippings taxes, which are 49 cents, are added to the total, but not to the tax line)
Total: $72.75

Isnt that weird?

I am not familiar with the shipping module, but I guess you need a tax zone for the shipping module.

I found out what the problem was. I re-checked the contribution page and noticed that someone had submitted a fix for this very problem. Thank you all for your help.

Makis,

The problem wasnt with oscommerce, but with the ZipShip module. To get this working properly all I had to do was download and apply the fix to the zipship.php. If you are interested in that particular module you can find it here. http://addons.oscommerce.com/info/4071. If you use this module be sure to download all fixes/patches to ensure the best possible useage of ZipShip.
