Using specials where attribute is set shows 0.00 price

If I setup any products that have an attribute set on them, even if the attribute does not have a cost value the price is incorrect.

 

The percentage is applied correctly and shows the correct discount, however in the shopping cart the cost is 0.00 and the total stills deducats the percentage so I end up with a negative shopping cart total. The product price is correct and there is no product price in the attribute.

 

Is this behaviour correct ? If not does anyone know of a fix or workaround ?
