Guest Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 lately i've been stumbling on a lot of my competitors' websites and noticing they have links to their SUPPLIERS! although i'm not complaining (i love the competitve advantage they're giving me), but it just baffles me how they think this can bring them sales? scenario: one instance has the suppliers' banners throughout the website as an advertisement... which is odd. scenario 2: click on a category... the category page takes you to another page that says "we cannot stock all of the products we offer. please check our suppliers [such and such category] and give us the upc codes so we can special order the items for you." sure, the supplier has the prices hidden... but the supplier offered me a LINK TO REGISTER A WHOLESALE ACCOUNT (and such i did!) -- is this a nonsensical business practice or is something over my head? why would you tell your potential customers, competitors, etc. who you get your goods from?

Guest Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 i would have thought that too, but they state on their website "you cannot order from them, give us the upc" so the supplier website doesn't know a sale has transacted from that website.. because the vendor's wholesale purchase could be simply backstock for their shop. there's no tracking from the supplier website in effect an affiliate program set up based upon wholesale purchases doesn't seem like it would make much sense
