awbrys Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 (edited) Hi there I have an osCommerce retail clothing website where we would like to be able to list products under two (or more) categories. For example, we have the following top-level categories for the shop clothing: - Bridesmaids - Corporate Functions - Senior Prom - Day at the Races - Dresses - Skirts - Tops - Jackets etc So, if we have a garment that is a "Dress" and also can be worn at a "Senior Prom", we would like customers to be able to navigate to this product via the "Senior Prom" category, as well as the "Dresses" category. Naturally, we do not want to have to enter all the products more than twice into the database (once for each category), as maintaining and editing the products database would take twice as long. My question - is there a contribution that allows this facility? I would assume that each time a product is added, the administrator would nominate which category/categories the product would appear under, and a virtual "link" or "shortcut" of somewhat would be created to jump to the category. I've looked through the contributions and cannot find anything - though I wouldn't know what terms to search for to find a contribution of this sort! I'd be interested to know if anyone else has needed such a facility in the past, as it doesn't seem that unusual. I guess it could be applied to several other osCommerce stores, such as bookstores (browse by category "subject" or category "book type"), etc. Thanks, awbrys Edited April 4, 2007 by awbrys Quote

Nah... we don't want duplicate products in the store, otherwise maintaining them would take twice as long (eg changing a price, adding a new colour attribute, etc). There's hundreds of products and the site needs to be updated daily. Quote

When u do "copy" u have the options to make a "link" to the product, and not a real duplicate, so if u modify the product it will be updated in all the categoryes... give it a try...
