Separate headers, footers, column_left and column_right

Hi,

I would like to be able to have separate header pages for my categories and product listings as well as seperate columns for each page so I can customize the entire site to my needs. I noticed some of the template contributions but I am not sure if they will let me do this or not? I really want to get the categories pages to have there own page instead of using the index.php page to load them.

PS: I have also modified my site alot and I looked at the template systems and they seem to need a clean install to work any suggestions?

Thanks,

Jamie

Jamie, the STSv4.x contribution makes the above very easy to do. Without using STS, you would have to add some special queries to accomplish what you are wanting. It can be done without the use of the Simple Template System but depending upon your PHP & MySQL skills it may be a very difficult task.

I have done it both ways for clients so I know that it can be done. Most of my clients appreciate the template system since they can make changes quite easily on thier own without paying me to do it for them everytime.

Regarding your modified shop, STSv4.1 and above have detailed installation instructions as well as the actural updated files to allow you to use a file compare utility for a perfect installation.

Hope this helped you out,

Wonderful thanks so much, I will have to digg in and install STSv4.1 and see how it goes.

Thanks again,

Hi,

Well I checked out the STS Templates and its good but I would basically have to redesign my entire site to use it. I also have so many contributions and other modifications I have made myself that it would be a ton of work to get the site working with this contribution. I am sure there must be an easier way to load specific headers and columns that does not require such work? I would think some PHP coding and a little MYSQL work would allow me to do this? I wouldn't think it would be that hard to do? I just do not have the skills to do it myself.

PS: I installed STS on my test site and it would not work but when I loaded it onto a fresh copy of OSC it worked fine. But again would be 100's of hours of work to make it work correctly.

Any help would be great!

Jamie
