After deleting categories continue to show on left column

Hello all,

 

I have been searching for a solution for some time now without any luck. The problem is: After deleting the categories that came with the demo (after initial install) and adding my own categories the demo categories still show-up along with the new categories that I added. I double checked on Categories/Products and the only ones that are there are the ones that I created.

 

I will appreciate any help on thi matter.
