I'm so excited to get some feedback on my store. This is my first osCommerce site, and it has been a surprisingly pleasant experience putting it together. The store sells clothing for juniors.

Check out my store at Turquoise Boutique.

It is still in the works. The things I am still working on include: a dynamic category menu, multiple images per item and search-engine friendly links. I am planning on revamping the checkout process a little as well.

All comments are appreciated. Opinions on aesthetics as well as functionality and performance will help me greatly.

Thanks! osCommerce rocks!

Hi Gretchen. Your store looks quite clean and simple. I'm almost tempted to say that it's too white...

I'd consider changing the font style for your top and bottom navigation. The white text can be a bit difficult to read on the turquoise background you're using. Try it in bold type.

In your bottom navigation, I don't understand the purpose of "X requests since Sunday 25 February, 2007". I see that it's tracking page requests, but what's the point?

I notice that you're using the stock osc buttons. That would be something to replace with a style more in line with the site. I'm guilty of this as well, but I haven't gotten around to it yet myself.

The last thing I'd recommend would be having unique <title> tags for each of your pages for SEO purposes. Use a contrib like Header Tags Controller for your product pages, and manually change the <title> for all other pages.

Good luck with your store!

I agree that the site is very clean. I would suggest creating a header graphic.

Also, the enlarged pictures aren't much bigger than the originals on the product page.

Its a very nice website. I would recommend changing the color of the extreme left and right sides of your website though to a diffused color. This should stop your site from looking 'too white'.

Thank you so much for all of your comments. I really appreciate the feedback.

I didn't have a lot of time to make changes for tonight, but for now I got rid of the # of page requests, which I had been meaning to do anyways. I also changed the colors around a little bit. I agree that the site was very white, but I'm super picky about colors. The side gradient was a nice thought, and I'm going to have to experiment with it.

I plan to make search-engine friendly URLs and change the title for each individual page next. Also high on my list of priorities is taking some new pics of my merch so that I can put up some larger and more detailed images.

Keep the feedback coming!!

What contribution did you use for the 'click to enlarge images'?

So I was playing around with this kuler color match tool, and used the color theme from your website as a demo since it was handy.

PS: don't mistake my experimentation with Kuler as anything other than my own personal desire to learn the program. Your website happened to be the most convenient challenge available, which is why I used it for my experimentation. This is just a courtesy post :) :)

I'm using STS for the page template. But the image display and popup I wrote using javascript. It automatically finds all the pictures for an item (up to 6) and displays them. Then as you hover over them it changes the large picture. If you find an item with more than 1 picture, it's easier to see (there is a pink sleeveless top with a few images). I will eventually have 3 or 4 images for each product.

I looked at that Kuler page, and I couldn't quite figure out what to do with it. I'm going to have to take some time looking it over, because it looks pretty cool.

I like the contrast that the grey sides add. However, I really don't like how there is a grey border on the top of every page. I recommend getting a better header and ensuring that the grey background only appears on the sides.

How did you get your store to have a different layout, other then OsCommerce?

I used STS to create a page template. You can download it here.

I'm sure I altered the code of a few pages too. I've changed so much it's hard to remember everything I've done!

Hope that helps.

Clean but pretty much a stripped out osc (features)

Nothing wrong with that I strip mine, but considering the features removed it should be a hell of a lot faster imo.

Try searching for the optimisation thread by Chemo and speed it up.

Nice effort.
