lawandorder Posted April 1, 2007 Posted April 1, 2007 Can I set up SSL per the Osc online manual, bearing in mind that I cannot remember whether or not I checked the SSL radio button during the install. Also, I am running the website on windows, localhost platform
vasttech Posted April 1, 2007 Posted April 1, 2007 yes you can always add SSL at anytime by editing the includes/configure.php and admin/includes/configure.php files. You can search the forums for more info on this change. as for SSL on a local box, you can do it as long as the webserver you have running will allow SSL certificates. The problem is that certificates are specific to the IP address and domain. Meaning if you move your site from your local box to a hosted platform you will need to have the certificate reconfigured for you otherwise it won't work. Unless you are running a live site on your local box (wouldn't recommend it) then there is no reason to install SSL until you move to the hosted server. osCommerce Knowledge Base osCommerce Documentation Contributions
lawandorder Posted April 1, 2007 Author Posted April 1, 2007 Thanks alot - exactly what I needed. Regarding security, is there anything I should look for when choosing a webhosting co. (I live in canada so would like one is US or Can). Also, I have been advised that I should get a merchant account. I'm not sure what this is, or if I even need it since my site will not be very high traffic. Do I need it if the webhost provides shared ssl ?
