Tax issue.

So recently I have had a problem with orders that are supposed to have Ca state sales tax added to them not adding the sales tax.

The products do have taxable goods marked on them, orders are shipped to Ca address, and for some reason tax is not being added.

I tried adding some products and checking out and I am not really sure where I should see the tax being added, but I assume it would be before I have to enter my CC info, and i do not see the tax.

My webmaster thought it was due to paypal express, because when she did customer pick up it added the taxes but when she did paypal express it didnt.

I guess I am rather lost as to what the problem is, because I would assume the tax should be added to any order placed for shipment to california.

One thing is I do have multiple vendors and many times the product would ship from a different state to california, could this be the problem? If so is there a way around it?

Appreciate the help.

if your tax zones are properly configured in your osc admin they should be added to the products during checkout. The core order total by default does this. So check the tax zones for canada folder. Beneath it you should have the associated ca states. Because if you haven't assigned zones and you simply added few zone folders won't do anything.

CA is for California not Canada, so I am assuming you mean I should look in the California folder?

thanks

The ca I meant the canadian states in this case. Why you need to look into the califonia folder and what's the purpose of having a california folder?

You should group states within a country/countries that have the same sales tax. Not simply using some names you can remember. An efficient way would be your folders to be named like 6P50 or 7P50, 8P00 etc which will represent the tax percentages (6.5%, 7.5%, 8.00% etc). Beneath each of these folders you assign the countries/states.

sorry the I misread the original post and thought you meant canada and california.

Ok you should see the tax at the final confirmation page. Make sure the tax folders have beneath them the states assigned for tax. The folder name itself does not specify the tax amount. It is simply used by the tax rates page in your osc admin to associate that folder (and whatever entries beneath) to a tax percentage.

I guess I need to clarify

The tax rate is set and it works properly on all methods of payment except paypal express.

.. and even on express .. the tax rate shows to the customer at checkout but disappears when the order is completed (and the customer isn't charged the tax)

Is this an OsC issue or paypal express issue or combination?

Further clarifying..

If customer lives in CA and checks out and pays with:

--- Credit card or check/money, sales tax is added.

--- Paypal, sales tax is NOT added to final order, eventhough it IS added and shown on the confirmation page.

Now, does anyone have a fix for this?

ok in this case is the paypal express module you are using. If it was a configuration with the taxes the problem would happen with any payment module.

Check the support thread (there should be one) for this module, if they already have an answer.
