Procella Posted March 31, 2007 Posted March 31, 2007 Im helping a good friend to fix his shop. He edited index.php, trying to get META-tags in it (i have told him now, to use a contrib next time). The thing is, even though he uploaded the original index.php, the pages are now showing the wrong characters. Where it should be 8859-1, it seems to be utf-8. I have tried to upload the original index.php from the installation pack, but without luck. I also tried using w3c validator, but it cant even validate the pages. w3c validator. If i go to the pages (www.wellness4youshop.dk), and manually change the encoding to "Western European (ISO)" the pages looks right (except the text from danish.php which has been changed manually). My friend has recently bought a windows vista based laptop, and he used that ti edit the pages. Could there be some kind of interpretation done, when tranferring the files? I have spent yesterday and this morning, searching for answers, here and on google, but to no use so far. Anyone? Timo Jensen
♥Vger Posted March 31, 2007 Posted March 31, 2007 You must be careful when opening website files on a computer to open them in a text editor which uses the same encoding. If you open a file which is encoded to en-iso-8859-1 in a plain text editor which uses utf8 as the default encoding then that's what will happen. Open the files again in Notepad and click 'Save' and then upload again. Vger
