Hello everyone

I'm working on my osCommerce store. It's going to be first online store for me so I was just wandering about the payment issues. Generally my question is how is it basically works. Who should I contact (Visa, Bank, etc..), what are the charges, do I need to set it up somewhere in my store, what are the legal issues, and more basi qouestion which probably everyone was asking before he set up a store. If You could give any hints about this I would be really greatful

Thank You in advance

Depends on which country/region you are in. Generaly you need to open a merchant account and get a payment gateway which is compatible with your merchant account..

Merchant accounts can be set up through your business bank, they should also be able to direct you to a sutible payment gateway provider.

If it is your first online store, and you obviously don't have a brick and mortar store since you don't have credit card processing available to you offline, I would recommend using PayPal if it is available to you. It is quicker to setup, the fees are about the same (depends on your bank) as a merchant account and you can do all things a merchant account will allow you to do. Once you start building traffic and selling more products then venture out and get a merchant account through your bank. This will save you application fees, monthly fees, minimum monthly fees, and long-term contracts until you are up and running and have people visiting your site. Just my opinion though.
