knott Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 for quite a while I have used this tool to see how my sites do over time http://www.digitalpoint.com/tools/keywords/ although its semi redundant now with googles own webmaster tools I still use it. Today I had a bit of a shock as it suggests my store has 93,000,000 backlinks and 90,000,000 pages listed in google. I only have around 400 items on my store. Is this going to cause me a problem? I have - "use search engine safe URLs" set to true I have the following contribs installed register globals 1.5 google xml sitemap 2.1 store feeds v3.1 ot discount coupon codes 2.1 I've also been looking at installing ultimate SEO urls but as yet not started work. Any advice, opinions etc? many thanks
b101aa2 Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 If you are speaking of www.downsleepingbag.co.uk, which is one of your websites... You don't have 90,000,000 in google's index. You have 6 pages, and 1 external link.
knott Posted March 28, 2007 Author Posted March 28, 2007 Hi, no its not downsleepingbag.co.uk I'm not sure if its an error in the tool or if it is genuine & something to be worried about
b101aa2 Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 It's probably an error in the software. To see the index of a site on google, just go to google search and type in "site:www.yoursite.com" No spaces. Google index all relavent pages in time, so logn as they do not detect blackhat pages.
Guest Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 FYI, Google will not tell you or anybody all their backlinks by typing "site:www.yoursite.com" anymore. They recently stopped that. They'll show a few. The only way to truly know is to check through Google Webmaster Tools. They only show 8 of mine to the public, but I have over 100 in Webmaster Tools. 2 of the ones they don't show come from a page with an "8" pagerank so I'm glad they don't :)
Jack_mcs Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 The "site:www.yoursite.com" hasn't changed. It still works. however, it never did give backlinks. That is not its purpose. It only lists indexed pages of your site. Google never has, and still don't, let the total number of backlinks to a site be known. That would destroy the whole premise of Page Rank.
