cPanel install problems

I installed osCommerce via a hosting providers cPanel

 

and have the following problems:

 

1.on login to admin/catalog

 

Error: Catalog images directory does not exist: DIR_FS_CATALOG_IMAGES

 

but folder images does exist, seems like somehow in the install a path didnt' get set correctly but I don't know where to fix it. looked in all the config files.

help?

 

2.Database Backup

 

Error: Backup directory does not exist. Please set this in configure.php.

 

I created a backup directory manually with ftp, but again not sure what permissions it needs and how to specify the path and in which config file

 

3. Filemanager

 

Warning: dir(DIR_FS_DOCUMENT_ROOT): failed to open dir: No such file or directory in /home/afcr/public_html/store/admin/file_manager.php on line 178

 

Fatal error: Call to a member function on a non-object in /home/afcr/public_html/store/admin/file_manager.php on line 179

 

what gives??? and how do I fix it and why didn't it install right the first time????????

 

I'm not a programmer or a system or network administrator. I've used lots of these open source php apps before thru cPanel with other hosting providers and no problems. is this a problem with this particular host's setup or a common problem with oscommerce? I can find no posts here about these problems...

 

also I see lots of mention of modules, payment modules, shipping modules. but can't find them anywhere they don't seem to be installed with the default installation, there is nothing to configure when you go to the link in the admin and there is no place to download them on the oscommerc download page, just the main download. how do I set up payment and shipping??

 

not to be snippy or anything but this has to be the most complicated and confusing php app I've ever dealt with. please change my mind. :)
