Never Ending Databse Errors

I've had my store for a few years now & it's been fine, but recently I started to have occasional errors that were unexplained. I noticed Warnings when checked my database in VDeck but they always repaired & this solved the issue although the problems gradually got more & more often.

 

Now, however, the site is almost permanently down due to databse errors. The latest is.......

 

"1016 - Can't open file: 'whos_online.MYI'. (errno: 145)

 

delete from whos_online where time_last_click < '1174918666'

 

[TEP STOP]"

 

....although this is far from the only one. I've seen references to the sessions table, manufacturers, category_1 & so on. I've bashed through the MySQL documentation & web site & used REPAIR TABLE & CHECK TABLE until I'm blue in the face, but I can't work out why it keeps screwing up.

 

I'm tempted to scrub it & start again but this would involve a lot of work & I'm not sure that the last backup is trustworthy. If I have to go to a previous backup to that I'm going to lose a LOT of work & valuable linking info that was recently added as well as sales records.

 

If anyone has any suggestions I'd appreciate it.
