Hi all

I've been searching here all day. Perhaps someone will be kind enough to enlighten me.

I've inherited an oscommerce site however I'm unsure what version it is as I cannot determine it from files I've been looking at - the latest 'version' numbers I've been able to find have been v1.79 2003/06/09 on the address_book_process.php file.

Needless to say I would like to upgrade the current setup to the latest available version.

Few questions...

1/ Should I be able to upgrade from virtually (presumably v 1.79), any build I am running to the latest with minimal fuss?

2/ Do I need to get my ISP host to do the upgrade of oscommerce or mySQL or am I able to do this remotely?

3/ Am I able to create a new test site in a new folder and then migrate (or copy) the new tested site to the production location (in the root), without too many path hassles?

Thank you kindly for any input you may have for me.

Kind regards

You can find the main version of the shop in the includes/applicaiton_top.php file (search for version). It is either MS1 or MS2, most likely. If MS2, download the latest update using the Solutions->Downloads menu item above and read the unpdate instructions. Pick one of the files it mentions and compare it to your. If they match, you have the latest version installed.

Asking your host to update it probably won't do any good. If they will do it all all, they would use the one available in the control panel, which is most likely outdated.

You can create a test site. You juse need to change the settings in the two configure files.

Hi Jack

Last question I hope...

I've determined that the version I have inherited is 2.2-MS2.

I've been doing some further research and noticed in News and Announcements re: the latest build 2.2-MS2-060817 there is a listing of files (quoted below).

My question, is it just a matter of simply copying and pasting these listed files to overwrite the existing files for the update to occur? (Assuming of course there hasn't been any mods made of the existing files).

Once again Jack, thanks for your assistance...

catalog/admin/includes/functions/compatibility.php (2 diffs)

catalog/admin/includes/functions/general.php (1 diff)

catalog/includes/classes/sessions.php (1 diff)

catalog/includes/classes/shopping_cart.php (2 diffs)

catalog/includes/functions/cache.php (4 diffs)

catalog/includes/functions/compatibility.php (2 diffs)

catalog/includes/functions/general.php (2 diffs)

catalog/includes/functions/html_output.php (1 diff)

catalog/shopping_cart.php (1 diff)

catalog/tell_a_friend.php (2 diffs)

Kind regards

You can only overwrite the files if you know they have not been changed by some other contribution. Many, many contributions change the general.php file. If you overwrite that and have contributions installed that need it, your shop will no longer function. There is a free compare program named Winmerge that makes it easy to compare files. Sometimes that is easier than trying to install them by following the instructions.
