Add French - which pack to choose

I want to add a French pack to my already installed English version. I know where to find those contributions

(http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions/category,7), but I am a little confused which one I have to choose and how to put in my installation. I would like to have an additional French language directory in my admin/includes/languages directory. I downloaded one contribution and it contained the whole catalog folder, so I was a little confused. I don't want to mess up my installation, it took me long enough to get where I am. ..

Can somebody please help me how to install this? Or would it be better to download the full French version, but I 'd have to start all over again >_<

I am very thankful for every little hint! I suppose I am not the only one who wants to do this and I didn't find any contribution in the Forum that really helped me...

All you need for the language files is the file named french.php and the directory named french, located in the language directory (of both shop and admin if you want the option of the language in admin). Once those files are uploaded, go to the language section of admin and add the language, if it is not there already. It should work at that point.

Thanx a lot Jack for your answer. I wasn't able to find the french.php in the pack that I downloaded, only an index.php in the french folder (that's the only thing there is). I uploaded the French folder to the language directories in the catalog and admin directory, but nothing happened. How do I add the language in teh admin section? What do I put in all those fields, for code, for example?

Did I choose a bad package? Do you have a package for that that yuo recommend? Or would it be easier/better to start all over again? Actually I am working for a French person, that also speaks English...Well don't ask me why I didn't download the French version to begin with...

You must have downloaded a partial update. There should be around 30 files in the french directory along with the french.php file. There are a lot of lazy people uploading partial contributions like that and it is causing a lot of problems like this. It looks like you used the first contribution on this page. There are a lot of partial uploads there so you just have to go through them until you find a full one. The second contribution on the the above page looks like it is a full package.

As for what to enter in the fields for the language, use the english one as a guide. The abbreviation if fr and the directory is french (or whatever you want to name it).

Thank you very much!!!!!! I got it and even already included the French flag!

Well maybe the next lazy person will learn from this post and doesn't need to bug nice people like you. I was actually not really lazy, but rather scared having to start the installation all over again... First time user. Next time I'll know better!

Cheers,

Karinha

I'm glad you got it going. But I hope you realize I was not referring to you when I said lazy. I meant the people that upload partial contributions.

Dear Jack!

So far I thought my French package is working fine, but apparently there are a lot of important parts missing. When I want to put a product in my cart it is giving me the following error:

Warning: main(includes/languages/french/shopping_cart.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home20/eq34517/html/catalog/shopping_cart.php on line 15

Fatal error: main(): Failed opening required 'includes/languages/french/shopping_cart.php' (include_path='.:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home20/eq34517/html/catalog/shopping_cart.php on line 15

Well i tried to copy this shopping_cart.php from the spanish version, but it is in Spanish then (well actually that's logical, but not usable for my case). And when I had that in there and wanted to check out, i got the next error message, that my shipping module is missing. i looked and I don't even have a shipping directory in my French modules directory.

So how can I make sure to add all those features also in the French version? Please help!!!!

Ok i figured it out on my own. :-"

I had only the admin part...So I downloaded a complete package (this time really the real thing!) and uploaded the French directory in the catalog includes folder again...I have all the modules now and I can actually buy products. So far it's working fine. I hope it stays like that.

thanks anyways!
