Installation Directory Warning

I am installing a new database (first time ever), and when I go to my storefront I get this message:

"Warning: Installation directory exists at /...../catalog/install. Please remove this directory for security reasons." It seems to me I shouldn't be removing this directory, and even if I should it won't let me as I don't have the correct user permissions.

AND the storefront also states that "This is a default setup of the osCommerce project, products shown are for demonstrational purposes, any products purchased will not be delivered nor will the customer be billed. Any information seen on these products is to be treated as fictional."

Now, I created the database through my webhosting company, rather than directly from osCommerce, so is there something wrong in their setup? Or is there something that I should be doing differently?

Thank you!

Once you have had a failed install you must drop all the tables in the database and start the installer again. If you don't know how to drop tables. Just delete that database and create an new database. Then start the installer over again.

Once installed you then delete or rename the install folder and set permissions on both configure.php files to read only.

Where does he say he's had a failed install??

He can see the store homepage. He's just getting the warning to delete the /install/ folder that follows successful installation of the store.
