Got me one of those oscommerce templates cos i dont have the skills frankly to alter the default configuration. i entered products and a credit card payment module. i have a merchant account and im going to arrange an ssl from my web-host, but then what? How do i get from the customer entering his credit card details to the payment in account? when a customer confirms the purchase and clicks proceed, where does the info go to? who do i need to talk to or arrange this with? and is there one of those card validity checks and a choice between visa and mastercard? im literally coming in from the dark here. do i need to give someone my server details?? etc etc.. i look forward to any help anyone can provide, cressa
Jack_mcs Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 You have to enable one of the payment modules in admin->modules->payment. Which one will depend on how you plan to accept payment. If you are accepting payment via paypal, then install the paypal module, if by Check/Money Order, then install that module. Which method you use will dertermine what happens to the money. They will either store it in an account and you have to transfer it or they will transfer it for you automatically. chooch Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 Maybe a bank merchant isnt the way forward, paypal and authorizenet are very popular and very easy to set up. If you have a paypal account the paypal module can be set up immediately - keep you options open before spending unecessarily. An SSL certificate is need to give customers security and peace of mind when accessing the login and payment/address and account pages but that doesnt automatically mean you should go for a bank internet merchant number. Upon receiving fixes and advice, too many people don't bother to post updates informing the forum of how it went. Until of course they need help again on other issues and they come running back! Why receive the information you require in good faith for free, only to then have the attitude to ignore the people who gave it to you? There's no harm in saying, 'Thanks, it worked'. On the contrary, it creates a better atmosphere. CHOOCH
Guest Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 thanks for the input, Id rather that all the traffic is maintained within the site and i think that using paypal makes the shop appear less well established. Also im from Ireland, where people are backward and walk around blindly and bump into things, so not many potential customers have come across Paypal yet, i wish i could just use it but its not appropriate. The merchant account is already well established as the company does over a €million annual turnover. but the online sales account for virtually none of the turnover, so high commissions and high credit card processing rates cant be absorbed by the sales figures. does anyone have a link the could send me to a competitively priced credit card processing company. does the credit card processing company provide code to be entered into oscommerce?
