darah Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 Greetings, I am a Mac user. I was able to successfully load Oscommerce 2.2 onto the server on my iBook, which involved a little sleuthing to find how to enable php, find and modify the php.ini file and telling it to look for index.php in addition to index.html on the server and modifying the path to look for the mysql.sock as well as a quick education in file permissions and mysql file permissions. If details of the steps to do this are of interest to anyone I could write up a list of the steps-but someone more knowedgable about these things would have to be willing to double check it for me. In any case, now it is time to put it on a ecommerce server and although they offer (and I will eventually accept) a free installation, I wanted to try to install it myself-if for no other reason than to become familiar with their tools. However, they have available both php4 and php5. Which should I use? The php5 php.ini file is easier to access on their system, but it seems as though more people use php4. I would be installing oscommerce-2.2ms2-060817, is there an official recomendation? Thank You, Margaret Halpert

Thank You, Margaret Halpert For the easiest go of it if you decide to modify your store PHP4 is your best best although a stock osC install will work on both 4 and 5 versions of PHP and MySQL. And check out Xampp if you want an easy way of trying out both versions PHP4 and 5 with MySQL 5.033. HTH, Iggy Everything's funny but nothing's a joke...
