Hi,

I'm currently using paypal as my one and only payment option and it has been working fine. I'm now debating going down the merchant account route (I have just to send back the forms and pay the fees to set it up) but I wanted to ask my silly questions here first before I pay out some cash and make a mistake.

I can use the merchant account with secpay or protx. Protx was winning originally but I wanted to check how easy to install the payment modules are and which has the least bugs as this may affect which one I choose. Also I noticed when I go to the protx contributions there are a few and I don't know which one to install. Which one do I install?

Summary

Secpay or protx?

What contributions do I install for each?

Is there anyway I could install it and test it before setting up my merchant account?

How difficult is it to install these?

Thanks in advance.

I can't comment about Secpay but I have been using Protx (Direct) for 18 months now with no complaints. Protx can work in 2 modes - form or direct. The form method requires redirection to Protx site to process the payment then back to your. With direct they stay on your site the whole time and payment occurs in the background. Reading the forum I think there has been a few difficulties with Protx form and redirections. The Direct module (nowv3.0c) is at http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contri...ll/search,protx - I keep it updated and shall be releasing a new version soon with some extra functions (like releasing deferred payments, refunds etc from osc admin). Installation is quite straight forward.

Protx do provide simulator and test accounts before you have your merchant account setup - drop them an email or call and they'll help.

Thanks Tom, the direct one may sound like the right way to go. Do I need anything special like my own ssl? I have a shared one at the minute for processing login details but as I'm using paypal at the minute I don't have to worry about security of payment information on my site.

Thanks

Shared SSL should be ok.

The main requirement for Direct is cURL.

In your admin area go to Tools -> Server Info and look for "Curl", it should read something like:

CURL support enabled
CURL Information libcurl/7.10.3 OpenSSL/0.9.6g ipv6 zlib/1.2.1

If it isn't present or doesn't have reference to ssl then you will need to use the form method instead.

Excellent I have CURL. No idea what it is but I have it. Thanks a lot Tom for your help.
