My Store www.boutiquejewellery.com.au is online. I would appreciate any feedback. I am listed on page 2 of google and page 2 of some other serach engines when you type in some key jewellery terms.I also am using a PPC which accounts for 47% of my traffic. (only AUD $25.00 per month at 30cents a click). Google accounts for 29% of my traffic. I am averaging 150 visits per week and average page views of 4. I have only had a 6 sales since November of last year.

1. How can I increase my traffic?

2. How can I increase my conversion rate(sales)?

Thank You all for your help

The template isn't the worst one ever made, it's quite attractive but basically for a serious business (which I assume by the amount you pay for PPC) it really could be improved.

If you don't want to make your own site using osC or don't want to buy a more professional looking template (which isn't really necessary in your case) you really need to make some adjustments to your existing site because it is kind of adequate for what you are selling.

Why on earth are you showcasing paypal in the header when you already have a banner showing in the footer? And why don't you remove the currencies dropbox and make use of the full left portion on the header and make your logo more 'in your face' as well as elegant and catchy?

Also, remove the extra box in column left which has the Rapid SSL and the hideous little image of the womens forum (not hideous because it is a link to a women's site, but hideous because it looks so out of place on a jewellery site). If the link to the women's forum means so much to you maybe you should have a 'links' page and add it there. The advantage of removing that box will be the decreasing of the page scroll because the hright of the page will be shortened.

1. How can I increase my traffic?

To increase your traffic you need to get SEO optimisation, that really means metatags, keywords and URL's that help search engines identify your store and it's products. There are other thing s to consider too like search engine freindly category description contributions and breadcrumb usage.

The only problem with most templates is that they are hardcoded and therefore sometimes not as easy to add contributions.

Well that is the key wish for all online businesses. I will split this in two:

i) If the site is attractive and looks professional it will help increase sales. Maybe adding a testimonials links where people can leave messages about how wonderful you, your store or your jewellery is will help sway customers minds towards the sales eh?

ii) Offer incentives to entice customers. These could be of free goods if to customers if they write a review for your items or if they spend 'x' amount of money online they get 'x' item for free (or half price) etc. Or better still think of yourself as a customer, what incentives would attract you to buying a product online?

6 sales in around 4 months is not success and if you stay as proactive as you seem to be then I am sure you will turn it around.

Wishing you the best of luck and success

Upon receiving fixes and advice, too many people don't bother to post updates informing the forum of how it went. Until of course they need help again on other issues and they come running back!

Why receive the information you require in good faith for free, only to then have the attitude to ignore the people who gave it to you?

There's no harm in saying, 'Thanks, it worked'. On the contrary, it creates a better atmosphere.

Thanks for your Feedback Cooch.

I take your point on the Position of the PayPal Logoa nd the SSL logo. The position of the womens forum logo is part of my banner exchange program that I hope to expand. The only reason I have kept my PPC low is only to assess how the site is going and make the relevant changes. I anticipate this to become a serious business. I am actually going to quit my job for a while to really concentrate on this.

I have installed the Meta Tags header controller and I am still working on understanding how it all operates. The real problem is I do not know PHP or HTML and all changes cost me money. I understand that I need to spend money to make money. Do I need to Learn PHP?

Thanks Boutique

Well learning it would help but it isn't essential in this case because osC is user friendly and anyone can get the hang of it if they have the will power and patience.

If don't think you need to spend money to make money because your site is adequate for what you sell - all you need is the time and energy to add various contributions and make small edits to complete what could be a very good site.

How you can even contemplate leaving your job for this online store is beyond me! With 6 sales in 4 months you know that isn't the answer - take it one step at a time.

The progress of my website has being slow because I work on it only when I can get an hour here or there. I am not relying on this business to feed my famliy just yet. We do have another income stream. In a month I stop work and I am committing 4 full days a week on this business. I can always go back to my job as there is always plenty of work in my industry. I intend to expand my product range as well.

Thanks

Your site only takes up half of my screen, the other half is background. This makes the page seem crowded and squished. I think fixing this will make the site seem much more professional.
