Guest Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 i added 'php_flag register_globals on" to my root htaccess (my own space in shared webhosting environ), and installed 2.2ms2-060817 with no problems at all. in previous installations, i have tried the various register globals solution contribution. some worked, some drove me crazy. so, this solution seems too easy, and i am wondering what's the fuss abt? am i missing something?
Jack_mcs Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 No, that is all there is to it. Of course, you are just bypassing the problem and the security problem still exists. Jack pardon my ignorance, what kind of security problems? then, after a few iterations, why isnt osc re-worked to work with register globals off? have i hit on a perennial question?

Yes, it is a perennial question. osCommerce 3.0 is being designed to be register_globals ready, so to speak, so it is being re-worked, it just might be a long time still until the code is ready for production use. There is a discussion of the register_globals issue here: http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=196079 Do, or do not. There is no try.
