TidalFish Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 Hi We have two websites that each have a different look, but both sell things. I wanted to know if OSC allows you have to multiple storefronts with one installed version or if we were going to have to install two separate versions. Really we just need the ability to have a different skin on one storefront. We would really like it to all be under one install since we are one company and would like to manage inventory and everything in one location. Any help answering this is greatly appreciated. Thanks Brando
Nullachtfuffzehn Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 Sure you can have different shops on one installed database. You need to install the program files on both of the different locations, but they connect to the same database in case they are located on the same server which I assume. Did that before for some customers.
satish Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 There is multi shop contrib by hobzilla. But there can be other ways of doing depending on the reason as to why You want multiple shops. TidalFish Posted March 18, 2007 Author Posted March 18, 2007 Thank you both for the quick answers. We do have our own servers, so we could hook into one database. I am not sure I explained it the best way, but the reason we want two stores so to speak is because of the look and feel. One site: TidalFish.com has it's own feel and LateralLine.net has its own. We want the user to not feel like they are being taken off either site when going through the purchase process. It sounds like this is possible with little problem. Would either of your recommend the add in to accomplish this or just use the base system, install files on each of the site and share the database? I guess my question is what method is the best to accomplish what I am trying to do? Thank you for your help, I greatly appreciate it! Brando
Nullachtfuffzehn Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 At first I'd try to install the Multi-Store contribution. Might save you some work. If it doesn't fit your needs you still have the possibility to install the program files on each domain and set them up accordingly. Multi-Store has also some features that might be useful though. Just check it out.
satish Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 For what You want You do not need a multi store contrib. Rather You need to have two stores(two oscommerce installs) with a common database. Had seen stores that havea 1000 products and again another store just using few of its top most products. So generally sith some minimum code tweaking we allow only some categories to be shown in each of the stores.
