Guest Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 Hello, I've been working on this site for the last few months and my site is finally ready for products (at least I hope it is). I will add my products at the end of the month and start trading. I have setup Paypal and Nochex (standard), and these work fine (redirecting okay). The only contributions I have used are Ultimate SEO 2.1d (Chemo), and lightbox. I have added my own pages for about us, delivery, conditions etc. I would love any comments, and if anyone manages to *break* my site, I would really like feedback on how I can correct this. What do you think of the nav, images etc. All feedback welcomed! Thank you! :D http://www.reddyeddy.com/index.php
Mister-Z Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 I'm not much of a critic, but I looked around a bit. I like the header, to me the site has a good overall look and feel. Not too cluttered, pretty well explains what you're selling and presents it well. But I'm getting some error's when I look at your categories. I can look at 'Kids' and 'Mens' and 'Womens' but when I try to look at any of their sub-categories I get header.php errors. The category content still appears underneath the errors, but still :( I'm sure it would be easy to fix but not exactly sure what needs to be done (I'm still new to OSC in general). The errors aside, I'd give it my stamp of approval for what it's worth B)
♥bruyndoncx Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 think you forgot to list STS ? selling to Afghanistan and the rest of the world ? would you just add some products for us to look at ? personally, I find it annoying to see the blank pixel images that are used in standard osc. would be nice if you could kill a few of those over the coming month(s) so that your content is in style with your template. KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON I do not use the responsive bootstrap version since i coded my responsive version earlier, but i have bought every 28d of code package to support burts effort and keep this forum alive (albeit more like on life support). So if you are still here ? What are you waiting for ?! Find the most frequent unique errors to fix: grep "PHP" php_error_log.txt | sed "s/^.* PHP/PHP/g" |grep "line" |sort | uniq -c | sort -r > counterrors.txt
matbennett Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 Definitely one of the nicer looking sites up here for critique at the moment. Couple of things that struck me as soon as I looked at the home page: 1. The header image looks like it should be used with topmargin set to 0. Either that or the guy in the picture has had an accident with a meat clever. 2. Bottom of the page looks a bit ragid compared with the standard of design of the rest of the page Actually, having said that I just realised mine does too!! Maybe we should both tidy those up. 3. Will the 123-reg banner be disappearing? This distracts from the main job of the site - selling product. It is also unlikely to generate much in the way of business as it is pretty untargeted. Going a bit further in to the site it looks like the registration/checkout process could be improved upon - but suspect that is still in the pipeline. All looks quite promising though. Wouldn't mind seeing it when it is live.
♥FWR Media Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 I generally like it. Categories look nice. design seems to work. However:- No SSL = dealbreaker Speed = Although not too bad still seemed a bit sluggish (and I'm UK) No contact info/address/Tel = dealbreaker Ultimate SEO Urls 5 PRO - Multi Language Modern, Powerful SEO Urls KissMT Dynamic SEO Meta & Canonical Header Tags KissER Error Handling and Debugging KissIT Image Thumbnailer Security Pro - Querystring protection against hackers ( a KISS contribution ) If you found my post useful please click the "Like This" button to the right. Guest Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 1. The header image looks like it should be used with topmargin set to 0. Either that or the guy in the picture has had an accident with a meat clever. fix this in your catalog/stylesheet.css Look for the entry similar to this one (do a find for "fixcenter", it's near the top) .fixcenter { width: 778px; border: solid; border-color:#B8CDE0; border-width: 1px; background: #ffffff; color: #000000; margin: auto; margin-top: 21px; text-align: left; } yours will be slightly different depending on colours etc etc. change the Margin Top line, save the file, keep changing until you are happy with the look :) The site looks nice btw.. first impressions are good.
chooch Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 I don't like the template one little bit. It is actually a very old template that is widely available. You have been proactive enough to add the lightbox and multiple images contribution for product info along with a size chart but I really think it would have a much better chance of success if it were more pleasing to the eye..... maybe you should add a different template. The header looks awful with the currencies/languages box, so does the actual logo - surely that could be re-designed to reflect your stylesheet? I don't think the grey and red contrast works well at all. I think you have done ok so far but really the site needs more work on it to make it more appealing. Upon receiving fixes and advice, too many people don't bother to post updates informing the forum of how it went. Until of course they need help again on other issues and they come running back! Why receive the information you require in good faith for free, only to then have the attitude to ignore the people who gave it to you? There's no harm in saying, 'Thanks, it worked'. On the contrary, it creates a better atmosphere. CHOOCH
