Google index question - category pages

Greetings -

I have had an osCommerce site up and running for a couple of years now; many thanks for all the good advice and discussions I have read here since then. I finally have a question of my own - I have about 2200 pages from my site indexed in Google. The individual products in my store are showing up wonderfully, but the main category pages no longer show up in Google. I'm not exactly sure when they stopped showing up, I only know that they definitely used to be there. In other words, a page like www.mysite.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=350 is indexed fine but a page like www.mysite.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=21 is not. I have unique meta tags, descriptions, etc for each category; I feel I've done all I can. Any advice? I know I'm missing out on some business now that these pages no longer show up.

First, be sure the pages are not being listed by typing this into google:

site:www.yoursite.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=21
If they are not listing, then try adding text to the page and installing Ultimate SEO wouldn't hurt.

Thank you Jack. As of today the category pages are not appearing in google, though they did seem to start crawling them again after I added some more text in the header tag category description. Is there another way to add text to the pages?

Adding text to the page helped somewhat, but installing Ultimate SEO worked like a charm. All the category pages are indexed now, took less than a week.

Thanks for your help.

The only other way would be to add code that will allow it to be displayed.

I know that google doesn't require a sitemap for extremely large web sites. Is it possible they are not crawling the whole thing? Perhaps putting a link from this forum to one of those pages would answer that question.

Best Regards,
