aeonwings Posted March 13, 2007 Posted March 13, 2007 Hi all, I heard somewhere that OSCommerce isn't very SEO friendly. Is this true? is it really hard to change meta tags in OSCommerce? I was looking into OSCommerce but now I'm having doubts because after all, the point of having a webstore is to sell to people and without traffic that's virtually impossible. Can anyone shed some light to this subject? Allen

Can anyone shed some light to this subject? Allen It is not SEO friendly and it is really hard to change the meta tags. This is because a stock oscommerce shop has very little code dealing with SEO and meta tags do not exist in it. However, once you install the proper contributions, there is no difference from oscommerce and an html site with regards to SEO. In fact, I think the oscommerce shop is easier to manage. Jack sorry I don't know what you mean by "contributions". can you elaborate? thanks
Jack_mcs Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 Contributions are code changes, written by anyone wanting to do so and uploaded to the contributions section (see Community->Contributions in the menu above). Some of the contributions are lifesavers and should be in every shop while others are frivilous. There are over 3,000 of them, last time I looked, so if you need an option in your shop there is probably as contribution that will add it for you. You would need to download the one you want and read the instructions in it to see how to install it. You should look up the posts regarding a contribution before you install it since they do not all work properly. And always back up your files and database before attempting one.
