kezzybee Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 Hi! I've just begun to edit my site but am already totally and utterly lost so please be gentle with me!! I'm ok with all the general self explanitory admin stuff but I want to change the look of my site and have absolutely no idea where to start! Is there a link or tutorial anywhere that goes through things step by step for a total novice as I can't seem to find anything. Thanks!
Kidz Toyz Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 Hi KezzyBee, I was also completely lost a few weeks ago. I don’t know php or html. I’d never used a text editor or an FTP thingy. If I can do it, anyone can! THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO KNOW IS REMEMBER TO SAVE A BACKUP OF YOUR FILES BEFORE YOU MAKE CHANGES so that you can put things right if you make a mistake– I learnt that one the hard way! Colours etc can be changed in stylesheet.css. (if you need help finding the right codes, for the colours you want, try http://www.colorschemer.com/online.html There’s some great contributions that you can add to your shop to help with customising colours and boxes. (have a look in the templates section of contributions) Theres even one (stylesheets with descriptions) which just replaces your existing stylesheet, but it tells you what each line of code changes, to make it easier for us noobs.(I liked it anyway). If you look in the header bar towards the top of this page, right hand side. There is a light green section called Network. Hover over it and go down, click on Knowledge Base. That is basically the OsCommerce tutorial. It’s great. It goes from doing your basic configurations through to adding extra boxes & much more (I printed most of it out, & it’s been very useful) Don’t panic. Don’t rush it. Do one thing at a time. If you need help, look through the forum to see if anyone else has had the same problem ( your question may well have already been answered) failing that post your own question. There’s a lot of helpful people about! I dare say there’s a million things I’ve left out, but I hope that helps. Happy web building  Nikki
