mike707 Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 Hi All, I've unzipped osCommerce to my desktop but can't see the install.php page and so can't get the install started! I was originally getting the register_globals message, but enabled them in the php.ini file and now seem to get past that. When I browse to the install folder (as per the documentation), I now just get a blank page. I've also changed the 'require' paths to what I think they should be, for example require('catalog/includes/application.php'); Should these specify the C drive? Any help appreciated! Mike
carvolution Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 i think that they should only point to the place on your host/server
usernamenone Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 Do you have a server installed on your desktop? If not you can not install on your desktop. You simply unzip you catalog and ftp the catalog folder to your hosted site then run the installer through your browser.
mike707 Posted March 4, 2007 Author Posted March 4, 2007 I have IIS running under Win XP Pro. Is the only option for having a test system to upload to a host? Mike
usernamenone Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 Download Vertrigo Server, it is much better option for oscommerce. http://vertrigo.sourceforge.net/ Just make a shortcut to the desk top and put your catalog in the www folder, set up your database in phpmyadmin and run the installer in the browser, localhost/catalog/install Or wait until a IIS expert spends hours tweeking settings for you. IIS and php are like Pit Bulls and Cats. I have IIS running under Win XP Pro. Is the only option for having a test system to upload to a host? Mike
mike707 Posted March 4, 2007 Author Posted March 4, 2007 OK, I'll try that. I did have problems getting PHP and MySQL working on XP, but I managed to get them working in the end. From a hosting point of view, what's the best option for osCommere with regards to operating system and web server? Mike
