OSC install - catalog and admin pages blank after install

After I complete the installation of OSC I cannot access either the catalog or admin pages. First I get an "Apache needs to close" error and when I click "Don't send" in the dialogue box, the page simply goes blank. Very frustrated now - hopefully somebody can help with this problem. Would be greatly appreciated.

Using Xampp and windows local install.

I am having a similar problem, but now, instead of a blank page i recieve:

 

Server Requirement Error: register_globals is disabled in your PHP configuration. This can be enabled in your php.ini configuration file or in the .htaccess file in your catalog directory.

 

HOWEVER, this is the line in my php.ini file:

 

register_globals = on

 

And this is the line in my .htaccess file:

 

php_value register_globals 1
