I need my quick search and advanced search to not only search the names and descriptions, but also attributes. How can this be done?

I have searched the contribution section and found the following:

Advanced Search including Meta Tags

I hope it helps.

That's still not what I need.

What I need is both searches to actually just pull values from the complete attributes list.

I'm already adding attributes, why would I want to add double the words? A search should be able to just pull from them already. Having to add a meta tag for each attribute would just make twice the work.

It isn't really much work at all compared to modifying the search to include attributes. Please, go ahead and write this contribution and submit it to the contributions section so we may use it.

Thanks

I don't want to hassle with having to add meta tags though for each product. I have thousands of attributes already. I will let you all know when I find a solution.

I'm not a programmer, rather a designer. Hence why I'm asking for help on here. :)

Well, it is certainly something that needs implementing. Product names, descriptions, meta keywords and descriptions, attributes etc. all need to be searchable. Maybe someone will read this and decide to do something about it.

I've been trying to think up a few needed contributions to write in my spare time, installed a blank store just the other day for just that purpose... If I can find the time tonight, I'll get to work on this one, and if I finish it tonight, I'll post a link to its contributions page here...

Hi Richard,

It's very nice of you to come to our rescue. This is a feature I'm sure everyone who has a lot of attributes would like to implement in their stores. Let me know how it goes and if there is anything I can do to help.

Well I'm not necessarily coming to the rescue :D Just trying to keep my skills from getting rusty :D

Thanks a lot for your efforts.

I just downloaded it and it seems the first change just adds comments around the code. Also, the change is to advanced_search_results I think and the instructions say advanced_search.php

Just about to try these instructions now but I thought I'd post this before installing it.

I just installed with this code and it works. Thanks Richard.

Not sure if the first step needs anything dong to it.

Actually you're right about that first step... I had the instruction typed up already with a change in it, and then when I found a bug with it, I realized I didn't need to change that after all, and removed my change, but left the step rather than deleting it altogether :)
