sheikyerbouti Posted October 14, 2002 Posted October 14, 2002 My clients will be selling their products to customers who have previously visited their spa and want to purchase products once they are back in their home towns. Therefore, for now they just want to set up the tax portion of the cart to collect taxes from residents of colorado. I went to the Locations/Taxes section of the admin directory and there are so many different options there. As it's set up, there is one "zone" within the United States (Florida) with a tax rate of 7%. Does this mean that only shipping addresses in the state of Florida will be taxed or does this show the rate at which ALL orders will be taxed? If i change that to Colorado, with our appropriate tax rate, will customers be taxed only if they live in the state? Thanks, pete
edschaum Posted October 14, 2002 Posted October 14, 2002 Setting up the tax thing is a multi-step process. First you should delete the Florida thing that's already set up, and then set up a Colorado tax zone using the instructs from the oscdox manual (change all the California refs to Colorado): TAXES SETUP 1. In admin, under Locations/Taxes, click on "Tax Zones" 2. Click on the "new zone" button. In the Zone Name: input field I enter "CA". 3. For Description I enter "California". Click on "insert" 4. After you click insert, you will see CA show up in the list. You think you're done, but not quite! 5. Click on the "CA" (or whatever name you have!) in the list and you will see the heading say "Geographical Zones / CA" 6. Here you see a "new zone" button again. Click on it! 7. Now you get to select a geographical zone. From Country, I Select United States. 8. From Region, Select California. Click "update" 9. A few more steps to go! Now under "Locations/Taxes" click on "Tax Rates" 10. Click on " new tax rate" button 11. Select "Taxable Goods" from the Tax Class Title drop down menu 12. From the Zone menu, select CA (or whatever zone you created) 13. In the Tax Rate field enter the tax percentage 14. In the Description, enter the description, e.g. "California Sales Tax" Now you're done! That should get you going. Ed
sheikyerbouti Posted October 14, 2002 Author Posted October 14, 2002 Ed- Thanks so much for that detailed description of the process. I have the oscdox guide, but i must have an early version of it, because it doesn't go into any detail about taxes. It talks some about modification of the cart's look and feel, but never talks about taxes. Does it mention anything about shipping? I'm still beating my head against the wall on that front :~) Thanks again, pete
sheikyerbouti Posted October 14, 2002 Author Posted October 14, 2002 I forgot! Will your instructions set the cart up to just tax people who reside in Colorado or will it tax everyone at the Colorado rate? Thanks, pete
