1 product from each top level category on index page

is there a plugin that shows 1 product from each top level category on the index page? instead of the new products section.

 

would also be good to show the category name by each image, and when you click on the image it takes you to the category page.

On my site I have a pic for each category on my page. It was a contribution from here:

You may have to edit the code to change the number of items (across & down) that you want to show on the page.

 

To show subcategories I suggest using:

http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contri...h,subcategories

 

You may need to delete some sections of code to avoid 'double listing'.

 

I use both of the contribs and they work fine.
