Adding a second, thrid, fourth manufacturer to a product

Hey team,

I would love if you could help me out with my store. I will be selling books and with books we tend to have lots of authors for the same book. I have adapted the manufacturer module into authors, but am having trouble adding more than one onto a product.

Does anybody have any idea of what contribution, fix or mod i can put in place to be able to assign a 2nd, 3rd manufacturer to a product?

I have tried the Manufacturer 2 contribute http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions,2634 but it seems to be riddled with errors in the code.

I'l love you help.

That'd be great, thanks,

Mitchell

A few things.

#1, before you tried installing a module (contribution) did you attempt the OSC preset for other manufacturers? If I'm understanding what you are attempting, you will be able to use those same settings at least I would think so.

#2, for your fix which you are currently experiencing. Follow the steps that you have taken forward; go backward and remove the module.

From what I am aware of, the manufacturer setting where the customer chooses the name - works the same. You make changes and additions in the administration area as you need to. That is all I can suggest on this matter.

I'm far from the advanced level on OSC but have been learning a lot through reading and searching the forums for specific topic needs. Hope this helps and perhaps someone else will come around to give you a hint or two. :)

Keep reading and always do your backups before changing any of the files!

Hey buddy cheers for the reply.

I have used osc for a little while and have never seen the "preset for other manufacturers" but that doesn't mean its not there, as you say - i will have a read over the docs and see if i can have a look for what you are saying.

cheers for the help

Mitchell :)

When you enter into your main page--- the Administration Panel..

You have the option of Catalog ---

Underneath it there are two selections of

Contents and Manufacturers.

Do you see that on your OSC Admin panel?

ETA: When you enter the Manufactures section, that is where you enter all of the manufacturers information that will be offering your products. For example, if you have a particular manufacturer called "Angie" you would enter that name in this area.

Since you can have an indefinite number of authors, a solution where you add a field for author 2, 3, 4 has its limitations.

If I were you, I'd use the categories functionality.

Say you have 2 top level categories:

I Browse by genre

II Browse by authors

Under I you setup your normal categorization of books

Under II you create a subcategory for each author.

When you list a book, you do this under the first author, next you use the copy function to link to each additional author.

At the same time, you modify your catalog and install the second category contribution by jcall (not sure about the name exactly but search on jcall, you'll find it) but it allows you to create a second category box.

There is also a contribution that allows you to create a product in multiple catagories at once, not sure how good it is, but worth a try !

Hope this gets you going, afraight the previous post wasn't getting you anywhere ...

KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON

I do not use the responsive bootstrap version since i coded my responsive version earlier, but i have bought every 28d of code package to support burts effort and keep this forum alive (albeit more like on life support).

So if you are still here ? What are you waiting for ?!

Find the most frequent unique errors to fix:

grep "PHP" php_error_log.txt | sed "s/^.* PHP/PHP/g" |grep "line" |sort | uniq -c | sort -r > counterrors.txt
