Guest
Hi. Welcome to the forum. I had a very similar problem, as you are doing, i was uploading the files using SmartFTP. Baically, after contacting my host, I found I had to login to the Cpanel, and change the file attibutes that way. Whenever I changed the file attributes using SmartFTP they never seemed to save. Basically, login to the web based FTP editor your host provides and change the file permissions that way. Let us know how you go on. Cheers, Steve
carvolution
thanks for the fast reply steve. stupid question but how do i do this. if i log in to my hosts control panel i can only get the settings for a ftp client and nothing else i can log into a directory list using " ftp.mydomin.com " but this does not let me do any sort of permission changes? sorry for being dumb? Guest
Not dumb at all.... I'm not sure what host you are using, but most hosts provide some sort of control panel you can login to, to administrate your account and site. You might be best off contacting them and asking how you change the file attributes of certain files. For example with my host, I login to their website and click on cPanel...... and I can access a number of services.

Guest
You're installing this on your own server? The file you ned to find is php.ini, open that file and search for 'register'... and your looking for a line that says register globals. Just make sure it's turned on. carvolution
i have ran a search for "php.ini" on my whole computer and its not anywhere? i am installing this on fasthosts.co.uk
Guest
Did you get my PM? So I'm correct in the asumption you upload your file to fasthosts.co.uk? It's your host who will need to amend the php.ini file. I suggest you raise a support ticker and ask them to enable Register Globals. Post their reply here and we should be able to help you either way. Cheers.

spot_on
just openen msg I am with Fasthosts too and trying to get osCommerce to work (not successfully I might add) The register globals in php.ini is OFF, I have been told. On shared servers that's what you get, as that's the default, for technical reasons I'm not sure I understand!
