webmerchantservice Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 3. If you want your shop to be available at http://www.yourdomain.com/catalog then upload the whole of the catalog folder to the root directory of your website via FTP. If you want the site to be available at http://www.yourdomain.com then just upload all of the contents of the catalog folder, but not the folder itself.

redbone Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 Also, if you wanted to keep your store in the /catalog directory, but still have your store come up when somebody types in www.yourdomain.com you could always do a URL redirect to point to the /catalog/index.php file correct?

Correct. But - if this is a fresh install, you may as well "do it right the first time". There's no logic to have the 'catalog' directory. d
webmerchantservice Posted February 24, 2007 Author Posted February 24, 2007 The root directory is usually under :public_html/ or sometimes : htdocs/ david I have none of them as an option? When I open my FTP they aren't listed in the directory. So where do I put this darn thing? LOL! Better yet why don't I have them as an option?

toadyyy Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 Started putting together a site using this excellent (because it's free!) software and am just now finding some of the noob mistakes I've made. One being, I put the site in a catalog folder on the server when in fact the catalog is the only thing the site will have!! Would it be more search-engine friendly if the site were in the root rather than a catalog folder with a single redirect from the root? Is there a better way than a redirect for me to sort myself out? Surely a big copy and paste up one directory level is far too obvious lol Thanks in advance!
