3. If you want your shop to be available at http://www.yourdomain.com/catalog then upload the whole of the catalog folder to the root directory of your website via FTP. If you want the site to be available at http://www.yourdomain.com then just upload all of the contents of the catalog folder, but not the folder itself.

The root directory is usually under :

public_html/

or sometimes :

htdocs/

Also, if you wanted to keep your store in the /catalog directory, but still have your store come up when somebody types in www.yourdomain.com you could always do a URL redirect to point to the /catalog/index.php file correct?

Correct.

But - if this is a fresh install, you may as well "do it right the first time".

There's no logic to have the 'catalog' directory.

I have none of them as an option? When I open my FTP they aren't listed in the directory. So where do I put this darn thing? LOL! Better yet why don't I have them as an option?

So - as soon as you connect to your server using FTP, what directories are being displayed by default ?

List them here :

Started putting together a site using this excellent (because it's free!) software and am just now finding some of the noob mistakes I've made. One being, I put the site in a catalog folder on the server when in fact the catalog is the only thing the site will have!!

Would it be more search-engine friendly if the site were in the root rather than a catalog folder with a single redirect from the root? Is there a better way than a redirect for me to sort myself out? Surely a big copy and paste up one directory level is far too obvious lol

Thanks in advance!
