osCommerce

The e-commerce.

Hi all

I just completed my install of osCommerce, and am very happy with it so far, but I want to know what is involved in installing a template I've downloaded.

I've noticed the template bundles come with images, css, html and source files - but where's the php?

Am I supposed to be provided with php files or do I upload the html?

And if it's the latter - excuse my stupidity - but where to?

Thanks heaps in advance.

From my experience, most templates are a complete osCommerce install all to themselves, as they are heavily integrated into the code...

I'm sorry, but i cannot offer Free support via PM etc, and osCommerce forums prohibit me from putting any reference to paid support in my signauture.

However viewing my profile may provide links to my website or something like that which you may find useful.

Hi Rob

This one is not, as I didn't want the app again.

It's simply html files, css, images and then the source files (psd, fonts and the like).

Do I need php files? Because these are just straight HTML and looks like I have to do all the work (except of course, the design) which seems a bit odd to me - the place I got it called it a template - but it seems to simply be a design - huge difference.

So, am I meant to have something else when I start with a template?

Can I use these html files with the STS plugin? As I've just installed that also and am having a bit of a look at the instructions for it.

Cheers

Natalie

Sorry, but without knowing exactly what you have, it is terribly hard to advise accurately.

Do you have a link to where you got it from or anything like that?

Natalie, It sounds as if you are wanting to integrate osCommerce into a standard web site template. If this is the case, then you will need to have STSv4.4 installed. That would be the only way to do what you are wanting to do.

By the way, here is the official STS forum: http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=204381

Have fun,

Sorry, I dont have a link as it was sent to me by a friend to use as an osCommerce Template.

I have STS already, as I said in my above post. STS is extremely confusing though, and I'll need to set some time aside over the weekedn to read the manual.

I've used numerous templating systems, and am comfortable with the PHP, it's just that STS isn't really clear on what has to be done to get a page up and running quickly.. but I guess I'll have to convert the base html I have to PHP?

I'm already using ZenCart, and installed osCommerce on the advice of a friend who stated it had better support (so far it does!) and is easier to use. But so far I've found it to be exactly the same to use (learning wise) but extremely difficult to just dump in a template like I did with ZenCart.

It's all a learning curve :)
