powerlifer Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 Hello people well i was wondering if you know any place i could pay someone to intall oscommerce for me. Im not looking for anyone to design the template etc just install the script. I have paid for hosting and SSL. Im out of my wits here with all the sql errors i get then even if i get that working i get a no input file specified. Ive looked at every thread on the web and now im at the point where ill happily pay someone to just install the darn thing and have it working. Anyhelp is greatly appreciated. Cheers Chris
Guest Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 Hi Chris. If you simply want osCommerce installing pm me and i'll do it for FREE. I'm new to this myself, and after a few initial errors I've managed to do it no worries. No need to pay anyone, it's really simple.

Cheers Chris Always we wish it could be so simple. If you have tried to install it yourself, and have been dilligent in followinf the instructions, sometimes the problem isn't in the user or the CNS, rather the hosting server itself. I am a webhost and have a new customer that tried for a while to use CMS based scripts on a website, but was also having errors. He contacted me after seeing my website, wanting to know how I did my eStore. Well, his site was a freebee, one of those internet places designed to put professional hosters and techs out of business, but they don't seem to really understand what they are selling. After contacting one server comany and finding the tech knew less than I did about his own site, I found that it did not support ANSI code! (of all things...) The long and short of it, some sites just think offering space is enough, but I'll tell you, you get what you pay for sometimes... Needles to say, that's why I call him a new customer. He is now happily setting up his OSC shop with a little input from his webhost, but not much! I don't usually work in osc, except through a CMS component, but I am finding the installations are nice, the bugs are few and the osc is maturing nicely. Look into what your site provider can and cannot do. Just like looking at the requirements of certain hardware and software for your computer, you have the same problems with sites, not all of them are the same. What is the Server software (Apache)? and what version? the php? the sql? if still no solution, give us a bit more info and we can check on it too.

Guest Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 Guys He's PM'd me afer I offered my help, and he's using the host Streamline - whom, up until this week I was using! They're completely unsuitable for hosting an osCommerce store. For starters they refuse to turn Register Globals on, and secondly they do not offer Private SSL's meaning. Instead, they offer a shared one (at a cost) and give you a new site https://username.ssl-01.com WHICH results in you having TWO ftp accounts and hence two copies of the site! Needless to say I have now changed hosts to SiteGuard and am completely happy with my new host.

Needless to say I have now changed hosts to SiteGuard and am completely happy with my new host. This was exactly as I was saying. I have run into this a few times. And the ones I've seen don't even offer email either! Really gives us small hosters a bad name to see that happen. I know that my newest client is doing well, and we've made a few changes to code these last few days for him, but for the most part, you'll see him set up and running very well, very soon. I can only add a piece of advice here, and that's once you have your initial site set up, do like your computer programs, save, save, save! I can't stress enough how important it is to backup the site when you are configured 'good-to-go', and before adding ANY contributions or contrib installers! Just because you have the contrib installer or template installer or what have you, doesn't mean your safe from errors if the contrib you are installing is bad. Remember, OSC is a nice CMS, but still a work in progress with new add ons and plugs ins. Cudos to them, I think they have a great script! If I were not so invested in my other CMS (2500 products and counting!) for my store, I would switch mine, too! Good luck!

Also with shared ssl only the urls will look different for http nad https but the FTP will remain same. You can purchase ssl from some other ssl providers and the site url for http and https will be same. Satish Mantri Ask/Skype for Free osCommerce value addon/SEO suggestion tips for your site. Satish Mantri Hi, your correct about the patch available - unless this person is thinking of purchasing a template as most of these require Register Globals to be off. I've actually tried creating an SSL site with the same host as him, and I received a SECOND set of login details for the https site. So this particular host does actually require you to have two versions of the site. I asked them for a CSR as i said i'd like to use a SSL provided by a 3rd party and they said they were unable to do this. The above reasons are exactly why I changed hosts.
powerlifer Posted February 22, 2007 Author Posted February 22, 2007 I finally got it set-up thanks for the offers anyway guys. Guest Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 I finally got it set-up thanks for the offers anyway guys. But on to my next problem is the SSL going to be possible using streamline or am i going to have to change. I take it if i do change i will able to copy all the info over to a different server so i havent lost my work? Speaking here from my experience with Streamline. I wanted an SSL url that looked the same as my site http://www.cutepooch.co.uk, but with https no http. This is not possible with streamline. While people say the only difference is for aesthetic purposes - I agree but feel prouder of my site now  The SSL Streamline will charge you £25 or £50 (depending on surver type), will begin with https://yourdomain.ssl-01.com. When I did this they gave me new FTP login details and said I needed to upload my site to that location aswell. All in all I found it easier/less hassle to change hosts. If you do decide to change, make sure you download ALL files from your site and save them before changing over. You will also need to backup your SQL Databases. My new host offer a domain transfer facility where they do all this for you, but for a fee. Cheers.
