Upgrading osCommerce

Hello forum,

 

I'm new to osCommerce, but I know about web development and PHP/SQL, so I want to help out a friend.

 

His shop brings an error, and someone on the forum told me to upgrade the osCommerce installation (the problem came out of nowhere, but is probably caused by an upgrade of my friends webhost MySQL server).

 

Now I have downloaded the version I could find in the download section (osCommerce 2.2 Milestone 2 Update 060817) and I want to upgrade to this version.

 

But how do I do that? I want to keep the shop intact, I mean, all the configuration options and all the products and categories. But the documentation for the above download only has information on how to install a new shop, and not how to upgrade an existing one.

 

So how to I do this?

 

I don't know the existing version of the osCommerce installation - if I need the information, where can I find it?

Since your shop is an existing one, you should follow the directions that tell you how to upgrade and existing shop. In the case of that contribution, you will need to compare each of the included files to make the changes. You can also download the complete new version from the Solutions->Downlaods menu item above. It has step-by-step instructions for updating.

Can you point me to the directions, because I simply can't find it.

I don't want to spend hours tracking all the changes, it should be possible to overwrite the old files, but I need directions on how to keep the existing shop content.

I downloaded it, upzipped it and found a file by this name in it: update-20060817.txt. It has all of the instructions you will need.

I found some additional documentation in the download area. There is directions for upgrading an existing shop without having to apply the changes manually.
