Hi all-

Newb here.

Can someone let me know what to do about this error message?

The configuration files do not exist, or permission levels are not set.

cd /hsphere/local/home/*******/**********.com/catalog/includes/

touch configure.php

chmod 706 configure.php

Are these files that are misplaced or do I have to alter something?

Apologies in advance for what I'm sure is a completely basic problem here. But I am a newbie and just trying to get this site up and running.

Thanks for any help :-"

You need to change the permissions on the file to 706 as directed. To do that, ftp to the includes directory, right click on the configure.php file and select chmod or permissions (or something similar - it varies with the program you are using).

Hi thanks for the reply.

But this is what I see when I open the config file.

I can't find anything that says permission or chmod.

Which of these lines is the actual one to alter?

Thanks

The permissions settings are settings on the file itself, not within it. Do you have an ftp program? If not, you can download one for free (like Filezilla) or you can change the permissions on the files from with your hosts control panel.

Hi-

Thanks for the info so far. I'm using Dreamweaver 8 but can't find anything in there on how to change permissions. Also I've tried on my hosts control panel and it hasn't worked. I mean all I have in there is a way to change things from "read", "write", or exec.". None of those has changed the message I'm getting.

Does filezilla or the one FTP you mentioned have an easier way to do this?

Thanks

The settings you found in your hosts control panel are probably the peremissions settings. They can be displayed as numbers or as text. If you set them to read for the configure file, it should work. The ftp programs are easier to use since you don't have to go into your hosts control panel. But not all hosts will allow that change to be made via an ftp program.

Hey Jack-

I finally got it. It's such a freakin' relief when it finally says ".......successfull(typo?)"

Now on to why my template is not being shown. For some reason when I went through all of this and I finally was able to get to view my fledgling store it's the basic drab osCommerce site. Before I was able to see my template that I uploaded.

Once again I know there's a simple answer here as well. If you have any ideas please throw them this way. If not I'm gonna post this in regular section.

Thanks again
