I think you have done a lot to move away from standard OSC but I agree with Kalli that it looks very OSC at first glance because of the standard pale gray boxes and borders with the standard left and right column layout. My own site still uses the same gray boxes so I'm not totally against it personally, but I think a 'gems' site needs more sparkle. I would have expected to see more images and vibrant colors, reflecting the range of colors of the gems.

I like your information about the gems, care and cleaning, etc. I think it is always good to provide information related to your products that it not part of the sales descriptions. You seem to have put a lot of effort into getting this information together and it is nicely hyperlinked.

For me the pages loaded very slowly, which surprised me because there are not many images and I could not see any other obvious bandwidth hogs on your site. Maybe a server issue?

I also like your search options; they work very well for you current products.

With regard to search engines, the are some good contributions you should consider, including SEO Assistant, Ultimate SEO URLS, and a variety of meta-tag options. There are also a lot of forum threads with tips and tricks for optimization - try searching for SEO and you can't miss them. You will see as you read more that there is no magic bullet and it can take a long time to increase your rankings so be prepared!

I hope some of this helps. Good Luck!

Thank you Woolvey and Kalli for your great suggestions and comments.

I am sorry I didn't reply immediatly, I was dragged away from this for a while.

Your suggestions are very valuable to me, I'll start to make some modifications to make the site less like OS template.

I do find the site is slow, I am using pair as host company (which is recommended by the community).

Thanks again for your time and attention, I really appreciate it.

One thing you should consider is to purchase your domain name longer. I saw that you bought it for a year and it's expiring soon. I purchased my domain in October of last year, but I bought it for 10 years.

If you want to appeal to Google, they will never take you too seriously. You will have an extended stay in the dreaded sandbox.

After a lot of research and 2 other websites under my belt, I got pretty good at Google and what they like. As far as SEO, if you know of anybody that has a website with a pagerank of at least 3 or 4 see if they will put you up there. You definitely should consider the seo contribution too, that makes a big difference. When you have time consider joining Google Webmaster Tools and submitting a sitemap the way they want it. Google loves it, it made a huge difference for me. Yahoo likes a text sitemap.MSN doesn't seem to picky.

Good luck to you.

Mike,

Thanks for the suggestion, I am going to renew the domain for longer time(five or ten years maybe). Regarding the search engine, I have tried to put some ads, but it didn't work very well for me. I'll take some time to find how the Google Webmaster Tools works, and also try to use those contributions you suggested.

Thank you sharing your knowledge and experience with me.
