Victor Wise
Hi all, I have a very basic question that I am hoping someone can help me with. TOS with your SSL provider aside - are there any complications that could arise from changing the 'secure ssl' graphic given to you? I want to tweak the graphic so it looks better with my site; however, I am concerned that I may get an error message saying 'some elements are not secure'. I emailed my SSL provider; however, I get the feeling that they are going to ignore me. Can anyone offer any advice? Best Regards, Victor Wise
Jack_mcs
Generally the seal code is just a link to the certificate provider so you can edit the image even if you wanted to. You can probably just replace the code to display an image of your own, but you would lose the link to the provider, which shows it is a valid image. railroadguy
From the Comodo Website "Note: The Corner of TrustLogo™ graphic cannot be resized or otherwise modified under any circumstance The graphic is pixel specific and our verification system will only work with the graphic emailed to you from Comodo." Now, you are not using the corner logo but I would be surprised if that would allow their logo and trademark to tampered with. Did you read their TOS? BTW, I have never had to wait over 2 hours for a reply to a question to [email protected]. Dan
Victor Wise
Daniel, In the end, I decided that their stock photo looked better, so I used one of their original seals. To answer your question though; did as Comodo's customer service that very same question in an email; and they replied with neither a 'yes' or a 'no'. Basically, the guy I was talking to made it a point to not answer the question. Though he was aware that I'm a graphic artist. On that note, are there anyt problems changing the corner of trust logo? Seriously, a Trust logo's effectiveness is 95% image, and yet Comodo has found it in their heart to give us the uggliest, most intrusive and non-inspiring trust logo I've ever seen. What a waste. Victor PS: The customer service for the SSL certificates was from a different website if I recall - no comodo.com. So don't hold your breath. jhande
Here's one for you to ponder over Victor... Let's say you are selling Chevrolet's (either online or a dealership doesn't matter) but you don't like the Chevy logo for some reason. Think Chevrolet (GM) will take kindly to someone altering their trademark to suit them? What about Mastercard, Visa, VeriSign, etc... should they start allowing people to alter their logo/trademarks? Sure some graphics are ugly as sin, but that is what those companies chose to spend their money on and lisense them as their trademarks & logo's. Unfortunately we have to live with it especially if it's specified in their TOS, that's life. Here's an option, why use a Comodo seal at all if you don't like them? After all, Comodo is supplying a link to display the logo - InstantSSL Secure Site Seals If using an Instant SSL Pro Certificate (which comes with a Corner Trust Logo) why display a logo and not just add text, something like "Protected by Comodo SSL"? Just some thoughts... - :: Jim :: - - My Toolbox ~ Adobe Web Bundle, XAMPP & WinMerge | Install ~ osC v2.3.3.4 -
