Conflict between osCommerce and new PHP version?

I returned home today to find that the osCommerce portion of my website, www.CobraCards.com, was down with a "500 Internal Server Error." Turns out my web hosting company had been upgrading their servers with the latest PHP version. Their tech support guys wrestled with the problem for a couple hours, and finally just put my server back on the previous PHP version. Since then everything has worked just fine. (Note that some pages of my site are not connected with osCommerce -- I run a phpBB forum as well -- and these pages were working the entire time.)

My web host's tech guys suggested I take the problem up with the osCommerce developers (heh).

Has anyone else experienced similar problems?

There's been reports that the current version of osc wont work with the latest php 4.4.5, which was released on valentines day.

Yes, there is a problem. Its on the PHP bug list:

Rather frustrating as a web host. We need to stay up to date with any security releases but I don't want our clients sites offline!
