please help

can anyone help me understand all the oscommerce esp. in the cpanel!! first off i get this error message in the admin section it states "error backup does not exist. please create in config.php" well i was told to do this in cpanel but where and more importantly how is very confusing to me a newbie.. then i asked a question about my site on the main message board and was told to secure my site, change password instead of the of the one they issued me, in the admin logon. So i was told to do this in the cpanel section under password protection directories. well there are tons of confusing files in there as well so thats two important issues yet i havent a clue as to how to fix them. Is there some great guide to gather all the necessary info to maintain my website or do i have to hire someone who knows what they are doing to help me out? I was given a site called scriptlance to hire help, does anyone haev any suggestions fro me?
